Learning the Art of Floral Design requires direct experience.

After learning different philosophies and watching demonstrations, there is nothing else more satisfying then to create your own flower design.

I remember back in 1986, attempting to create my first design. I gave up. I tried again, and failed. Eventually through the years I learned this beautiful art.

Lucky me that my partner Keiko Nakamura had incredible design talents.

We became South Florida pioneers in the emerging USA dried flower business that was flourishing thanks to new techniques of preservation and the Victorian Country popularity of the 80's.

Keiko designs were unique. From the joy of designing with flowers, it became for us a business. "A gentle way to make money"

Several designers are available around Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to share their knowledge.

Ft. Lauderdale Flower Design Classes

Flower classes are given to groups of 10 people max. Usually each group will discuss in advance want they want to learn, like designing with fresh flowers,designing silk flower arrangements or a class on potted herbs. These classes are conducted at Joy's Florist in Ft Lauderdale. Flower classes can be hands on or just demonstrations.

Flower Design state of mind.

Observe nature. She is the greatest teacher. In Ikebana, silence is essential to create that state.

Connie, my great designer and friend, Connie said that each design should be approached with the following attitude: "To Accent The Presence Of Preciousness"

Treats flowers like little children. Each material you use becomes something special. It's placement has a natural feel and ultimately convey to the observer certain ecstatic feelings.

Creating your own flower arrangement should not intimidate you, because it is a journey of discovery. It a a craft it is art.
